Sam’s No Frills opens in Alberta

No Frills welcomed customers in Lloydminster, Alta. on Thursday (May 28), the city’s first hard discount store.

Sam’s No Frills, located at 4215 70 Avenue, features fresh produce and pantry staples, hot rotisserie chickens and an expanded bakery section.

Store owner Sam Singh began his journey with the Loblaw Companies banner five years ago in Winnipeg as a meat manager. He later moved to Edmonton, where he continued to grow within No Frills.

“I’m incredibly excited and proud to bring quality groceries to Lloydminster at an affordable price,” said Singh. “Opening the city’s first No Frills is an exciting milestone, and I look forward to creating a welcoming shopping experience, supporting local initiatives, and building strong connections within the community. My hope is that Sam’s No Frills becomes a trusted staple for local residents—a place families can count on for value, quality, and friendly service every day.”

To celebrate the grand opening, Sam’s No Frills donated $1,200 each to The Salvation Army and the Lloydminster Interval Home (Women’s Shelter).
