Western Canadian grocery retailer Save-On-Foods opens the doors to a new innovative store in Coquitlam, B.C. tomorrow (September 1).

The location—which the company has billed as “the future of Save-On-Foods”—will feature an automated online ordering centre, set to be operational in November.

Occupying 16,000 sq. ft., the centre will use automation to fill online shopping orders, freeing up floor space and staff to focus on other tasks.

Save-On-Foods Sunwood Square (located #100-3025 Lougheed Highway) features 56,000 sq. ft. of retail space, and will include offerings such as a grilling station manned by a chef; an oyster bar; a custom cake centre; a full-service cheese counter staffed by a cheese monger; a Mediterranean bar; a fresh-pressed juice bar; a bulk candy store and popcorn kiosk; and a wine department including more than 1,500 B.C.-made varieties.

A selection of Save-On-Foods Kitchen grab ’n’ go items including hand-stretched, Napoli-style pizza; homestyle fried chicken; fresh poké bowls; and in-store rolled sushi will also be available.

“Not only do we have an industry-leading fresh grocery experience, but we have integrated an automated online ordering centre right into this store. That’s going to change the way we deliver our online shopping orders through Save-On-Foods and improve the customer experience – our ultimate goal,” Save-On-Foods President Darrell Jones said in a press release.

Save-On-Foods Sunwood Square is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

With 186 stores, Save-On-Foods has opened 40 new stores in the last five years.
