Save-On-Foods opened a 39,000-square-foot store in Surrey’s Guildford area on Thursday--the Western grocer's ninth location in the city.

The store—which anchors a retail development called Guildford Village—offers a traditional grocery shopping experience as well as a “wide variety of Save-On-Foods’ freshest innovations,” according to a press release.

These innovations include:

  • A meat and seafood department stocked with Western Canadian AAA beef, a large selection of fresh sausages, kabobs, marinated chicken breasts and Ocean wise seafood.
  • A bakery stocked with breads made with Western Canadian wheat.
  • A grab ‘n go kitchen with a taqueria Mexican grill, fresh daily made poké bowls and in-store rolled sushi.

“We could not be more thrilled to open another Save-On-Foods store to serve the city of Surrey,” said Save-On-Foods president Darrell Jones, in a press release. “Now, more than ever, our customers are looking for quality, value and convenience in their local grocery store and we know that Save-On-Foods Guildford Village will deliver! From our fresh, daily made-in-store meals to our online shopping service, there is something for everyone at this beautiful new store.”

Save-On-Foods is Western Canada’s largest grocery retailer, with 185 stores and more than 22,000 team members across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Yukon.

The company has opened 40 stores in the last five years. Most recently, Save-On-Foods opened a replacement store in Kimberley, B.C. in February; a brand-new store in Chilliwack, B.C., in March; and two stores in Winnipeg in May.
