Korea's Emart guides shoppers around the store with LEDs and an app
South Korean grocer Emart is using smartphones and LED lights to guide shoppers around their stores and, more important, lead them to discounts.
Emart Sale Navigation, as the tool is called, combines GPS with a location-based Android phone app. LED lights on store ceilings send information to lenses attached to shopping carts, according to Tech in Asia.
Shoppers who attach their phones to a shopping cart using a special plastic arm can then be guided around aisles with help of the indoor maps. When there's a coupon available, it pops up on their phone's screen.
