Sobeys Inc. has completed the purchase of Canada Safeway.
Last month, the grocery chain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Empire Co. Ltd., said it would put 23 stores up for sale in exchange for regulatory approval for its $5.8-billion purchase of grocer Safeway Canada.

The retailer said it will come away with a gain of 190 supermarket locations overall from the Safeway acquisition.
