With its new look store that debuted in Winnipeg's Sage Creek neighborhood Oct. 25, Sobeys' on a mission to enhance food discovery, and make it easy for consumers to eat well and healthier, too.

The 40,000-sq.-ft. store located in South East Winnipeg, features a new market feel layout that enhances food discovery by offering consumers more ways to learn about food in each department.  The grocer actively provides customers with the tools, tips and recipes they need – in store and online – to prepare healthy, great-tasting and affordable meals at home.

For example, extensive signage in the produce department denotes what's local, in season and freshness is stressed.

And to help consumers cook with and enjoy quality ingredients, there are "Sobeys Better Ingredients" sections in the grocery department where they'll find a range of premium quality oils, pastas, imported chocolates, teas and other ingredients.

Some of the signature fresh product programs in-store include tomatoes grouped by sweetness, making it easy for customers to make choices that are right for them; guaranteed-ripe avocados and potatoes displayed by their recommended usage, be it baked or mashed.

"Sobeys Sage Creek is the first in a series of new stores we are launching across the country, and we expect it to become the destination for better food for Winnipegers,” said Sam Bartucci, general manager for Sobeys West.

The new look comes following the announcement in the fall that the grocer partnered with U.K. food advocate-chef Jamie Oliver.

Sobeys is also the first Canadian retailer to sell beef, pork and poultry that meets Certified Humane standards.
