Sobeys makes $1 million donation to cancer research centre
The Sobey Foundation donated $1 million towards the creation for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Place facility in Halifax that focuses on supportive care and centre for cancer prevention research.
The project would not have been able to move ahead without the donation from Sobeys, said Maureen Summers, CEO, Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Daffodil Place will be located on the current site of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Lodge That Gives, which provides accommodations and meals for cancer patients who have had to travel to the city for treatment. The donation will be used to increase Lodge accommodations to 76 beds from 34, as well as provide private and family accommodations.
