Befitting the supermarket's name, on a sunny Friday afternoon Bill Chen, owner of Asian grocer Sunny Foodmart opened his third store in Markham, Ont.

Located in the newly titled city (as of July 1st), Markham is home to United Nations of sorts with one of the most diverse communities in Canada that includes Asians and South Asians.

The 40,000-sq.-ft. store features a large produce section, fresh bakery, frozen, dairy and Halal meat department. It took over the space that used to be a Food Basics.

This is the third supermarket for Sunny. President Bill Chen said he has plans to open 10 more stores over the next few years.

One unique feature of the store is the live seafood area that is housed in a separate room in the store. The entrance features a boat's hull to highlight the area.

Dignitaries in attendance included Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, Michael Chan,MPP; Logan Kanpathi, Markham city councillor; Chin Lee, Toronto city councillor.

There were drummers, South Asian dancers and dragon dancers to officially open the supermarket.
