Sunterra Market adds new perks to rewards program

Bonus points, status tiers and a new app are part of the refresh

Sunterra Market has freshened up its rewards program.

The grocer’s Fresh Rewards program was created 20 years ago as a way to thank customers for their loyalty. Members can earn points for every dollar they spend and redeem them for Sunterra-made food items, gift cards, cooking classes and catered meals. They can also donate their points to Sunterra’s community partners, such as Ronald McDonald House and Inn From the Cold.

As part of the new program, for every 1,000 points members earn, they’ll get a free “bonus reward” that can be redeemed on their next purchase in store or online. Members can also earn double points on Sunterra-made items, such as grab ‘n’ go pizzas, yogurt cups and fresh fruit pie.

Sunterra Market also introduced loyalty status tiers, which allow members to get different benefits depending on their rank. Members who have earned 4,000 or more points within the past 365 days will automatically become a “connoisseur” and begin earning 10% more points per dollar spent. If they’ve earned one to 3,999 points, they become “a foodie” and will continue to earn one point per dollar spent. Foodies, of course, can keep earning points to become a connoisseur.

Members in both tiers get a free slice of cake and cup of coffee on their birthdays—a perk from the previous program iteration.

A new Fresh Rewards app offers additional benefits to members. Users can watch their points balance climb and see their status in real time; scan and pay on the go from their phones; and access offers available only in the app.

Sunterra Market has eight retail locations in Calgary and Edmonton and one in Red Deer, Alta., as well as farming operations in Acme and Trochu, Alta.
