USDA fights food waste with new app

It's an age old question when scanning the household fridge: is it still safe to eat this?

Questions about expiry dates (and how strictly they should be followed) have long been a consumer concern. Created to help curb food waste, FoodKeeper allows users to look up timelines based on the product and they way it's being stored. Users can also set alerts to notify you as an item approaches its expiry.

According to a recent CTV News story, the app gives tips on how to best store more than 400 food and beverage items.
