Veggies in disguise
Disguising food so picky eaters get their veggies isn't a practice just reserved for kids anymore.
An article in the New York Times points out only about 5 per cent of Americans under 50 are getting the recommended amount of vegetables.
So how is the food industry making vegetables more tolerable?
There are two trains of though on the idea: either make vegetables more appealing, or hide them all together.
The article points to examples like cute mascots, and pre-cut vegetables that make the produce seem more appealing for its appearance and convenience.
On the flip side, some companies are reworking vegetables so they hardly seem like a healthy food at all. Veggie Blend-Ins, for example, are plastic pouches filled with puréed vegetables that can be added to a less-healthy food.
