Walmart and Amazon battle for talent in Silicon Valley
Walmart competes for e-commerce, big data talent in high-tech's turf
It's a long way from Bentonville, Ark., Walmart's headquarters, but the retailer knows in order to beat Amazon, it has to go where all the tech talent is: Silicon Valley.
At its technology centre, @WalmartLabs, located in Silicon Valley, competition is fierce for big data and e-commerce type of people. The retailer will also be opening another office in the area, near Yahoo's head office.
To compete with Amazon and other tech giants, Walmart is using their playbook when it comes to buying startups, as well as hiring the startups' founders and engineers.
