Walmart Canada Bank campaign to fight hunger

Walmart Canada Bank, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Canada Corp., announced a new fundraising initiative to help alleviate hunger in communities that will see the donation of five dollars to local food banks with the completion of every Walmart Rewards MasterCard application in-store.

"Faced with increasing demand for their services, community food banks need our support now more than ever," said Jennifer Sault, director, Walmart Canada Bank. "Every dollar raised through this campaign will go towards providing food and vital services to help families in need."

The six-week campaign runs until December 9, and has the potential to deliver hundreds of thousands of dollars to food banks in Walmart-served communities.

According to Food Banks Canada, there are over 850,000 Canadians visiting food banks each month; among these there are more than 300,000 children.
