Walmart Canada raises wages for hourly employees
Decision part of retailer’s new frontline investments
Walmart Canada is spending $53 million to raise wages for its hourly store associates.
The retailer raised the hourly wage for some 40,000 store workers earlier this month.
Walmart also recently invested in digital handheld devices for its employees.
The devices allow associates to look up items more quickly in the retailer’s systems, leading to faster real-time communication between staff and customers.
"We're on a journey of developing our talent, simplifying and modernizing how we work, investing in our teams, and strengthening our culture," said AnnMarie Mercer, chief people officer, Walmart Canada, in a release.
