Walmart expands online grocery to Edmonton

Pickup will be available at six locations

Walmart Canada is expanding its online grocery pickup service to six Edmonton area stores.

Similar to existing markets in which the service operates, the fee for online grocery pickup is $3 and customers are able to order up to 21 days in advance at Walmart.ca or via the retailer's app.

Orders are picked in store by dedicated Walmart staff, then brought to customers waiting in designated spaces in the store’s parking lot.

"With Walmart.ca Grocery Pickup, we help Canadians save both money and time on grocery shopping," said Daryl Porter, vice-president of omnichannel and online grocery at Walmart Canada, in a release. "By taking grocery shopping off their list, it's obvious why our customers find this service so appealing and why we continue to expand this service to new markets."

The big box retailer introduced its grocery pickup service to 11 Ottawa stores in 2015, before expanding to six locations in the Greater Toronto Area the following year. The Ottawa "pilot project" marked the first time Walmart had sold produce, meat and other fresh food online in Canada.
