Walmart goes to school at Georgia Tech

The retailer's new Walmart on Campus store offers students convenience, access to affordable goods
8/14/2013

Walmart has opened a store on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dubbed "Walmart on Campus" it's a far cry from the big box stores the retailer usually opens. Instead, the store occupies a 2,500 square feet facility.

The Georgia Tech store is the third of its kind; others are located at the University of Arkansas and Arizona State University.

The Georgia Tech store is part of a pilot program designed to provide Georgia Tech students and faculty, as well as the surrounding neighborhood, more convenient access to affordable products, according to a release. Some said called it a convenience store, without the convenience store prices.

The Walmart on Campus format offers quick and convenient shopping, employing 10 associates. There's a pharmacy and fresh produce as well as convenience items.
