Walmart says: "Let the sunshine in!"

Retailer's investment in solar panels turning it into a green-power giant

Walmart shoppers have long harnessed the power of low prices.

But the retailing behemoth appears to be increasingly harnessing the power of a different sort: sun power.

Walmart has put so many solar panels on its rooftops (like in this photo) that it is converting more sun into energy than 35 states in America.

A 40% increase in installations in Walmart’s second quarter means the company now draws 89 megawatts of power from the sun, according to a report in Bloomberg. That’s enough to light up 22,250 homes.

With solar panel prices coming down, retailers like Walmart and Costco are investing in sun energy. And Swedish furniture chain Ikea plans to start selling solar-panel systems for homes.
