Senior Director, Business Development and Operations, Affiliated Independent Group (National Wholesale Division)
Loblaw Companies Limited

How did you get your start in the grocery business?

I began my career as a part-time cashier in a grocery store and quickly developed a passion for the fast-paced, customer-focused environment. From there, I progressed through a variety of store-level roles, including front-end manager, assistant manager and store manager, gaining a strong operational foundation.

I later transitioned into corporate leadership positions, where I held roles such as operations manager, district loss prevention manager, director of operations and business development, and district manager. Today, I’m proud to support independent retailers through Loblaw’s National Wholesale Division, where I focus on driving business growth and operational excellence. Over the past 28 years, it has been an incredibly rewarding journey shaped by continuous learning and evolving challenges.

What keeps you passionate about your work?

My passion is driven by three things: people, food and service. Grocery retail is a dynamic industry where no two days are the same, and that constant evolution keeps me energized.

In my current role, I’m especially motivated by the opportunity to support independent operators, collaborate with diverse teams and help strengthen local businesses. Knowing that our work directly impacts communities is incredibly fulfilling.

What is a career challenge you've faced and how did you overcome it?

One of the most significant challenges in my career was stepping into a new role at a new company 10 years ago. It felt like entering completely unfamiliar territory, both professionally and culturally. I approached this transition with curiosity and a strong commitment to building relationships. By actively listening, asking questions and learning from those around me, I was able to quickly gain insight and build trust. That openness allowed me to turn uncertainty into opportunity and succeed in the role—an approach that continues to guide me in my work today within National Wholesale.

Best career advice you've received?

The most impactful advice I’ve received is to never hesitate to reach out for support. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that people are often more willing to help than we expect. Building connections, seeking different perspectives, and learning from others’ strengths has been instrumental in my growth, especially when transitioning between roles or taking on new challenges. Collaboration not only strengthens outcomes, but also makes you a more effective and well-rounded leader.

Best day on the job?

For me, the most rewarding moments come from helping others succeed. Whether it’s resolving a complex issue, coaching a colleague through a challenge or offering a new perspective that leads to a solution—those moments stand out. There is nothing more meaningful than seeing the positive impact of that support, whether it’s a colleague or an independent retailer within the National Wholesale network and receiving genuine appreciation.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I value spending quality time with my family. I have two sons, a wonderful husband and a close extended family, and we often enjoy gathering around a great meal. Cooking is a personal passion of mine. I love experimenting with new recipes and techniques, and I’ve built quite an extensive cookbook collection over the years.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have an IMDb page. Years ago, my husband produced independent horror films and I made a few on-screen appearances.

Anything else you'd like to add?

My journey has been shaped by the privilege of learning from exceptional mentors and leaders, particularly strong women who have influenced both my personal and professional growth. Equally important has been the support of leaders who recognized my potential and created opportunities for me to grow and contribute. That combination of mentorship and advocacy has been a key driver of my success, and it continues to inspire me to do the same for others, especially as we support and develop independent businesses across the National Wholesale network.
