Canada Beef leading the herd in social media

Beef farmers to share photos under the hashtag #BeefFelfie
3/26/2014

Beef farmers are bringing the selfie from the bars to the fields with their new social media campaign.

Canada Beef launched the initiative last week encouraging beef farmers and ranchers to share their #Felfie — a combination of farmer and selfie — under the hashtag #BeefFelfie. The goal of the campaign is to actively showcase life on Canadian farms and engage with consumers who want to know where their food comes from.

“We’re seeing more and more producers engage in social media and with Canada Beef’s larger social footprint; we saw this trend as a great way to connect the farm to the fork, the farmer to the consumer,” Rob Meijer, President of Canada Beef, said in a release.

Consumers and producers will have the opportunity to vote on their favourites, as the photos continue to be used as a means to promote Canadian beef and the farmers who work to bring it to consumer tables.

This isn’t the first time Canada Beef has taken advantage of social media — they have seven different Twitter handles, and their regular Twitter chats are known to have over 200 participants.
