Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards finalists announced
The finalists for the 18th annual Canadian Grand Prix New Products Awards were announced April 25. The awards celebrate innovative new products in the grocery industry.
“This award program has been instrumental in both recognizing and encouraging new product development and innovation, which are vital to continued growth in the Canadian grocery industry,” said Diane Brisebois, president and CEO, Retail Council of Canada (RCC), which now operates the award program after the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors closed its doors earlier in the year.
The program is open to manufacturers and distributors of all sizes. Each entry is graded on five criteria: uniqueness and innovation, product characteristics, presentation and packaging, overall consumer value and consumer acceptance.
The Grand Prix recognizes food, non-food and private label categories–26 categories in all. There are also five special awards to honour the best overall innovation and originality, innovative packaging, consumer acceptance, healthy innovation and all-Canadian product.
A 32-member jury comprised of consumers, food editors, journalists, advertising executives, packaging designers and members of the grocery industry evaluated the entries.
In February, the panel gathered in Montreal to evaluate the food and private-label products; non-food products were assessed at home over six weeks.
Winners will be announced on June 15 at the Toronto Congress Centre at a gala event presented by the RCC. Click here for ticket information.
Products introduced between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2010 were eligible to be entered in the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards.
The finalists and winners can use the Grand Prix Award logo on their packaging for two years. Winners gain additional profile through retailer support via flyers.
