CFIA detects no potato wart in 2022 survey
Agency collected some 1,500 soil samples from fields across several provinces
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says it did not detect potato wart in its national survey for 2022.
Nearly 1,500 soil samples were collected from seed potato fields in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
One criterion included in field selection was farms that had previously sourced seed potatoes from Prince Edward Island.
The survey results have been provided to the United States Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS) and the Canadian Potato Council
