The Halloween decorations are barely put away and already British supermarket chains are rolling our their holiday marketing campaigns.
It's an important shopping period for any retailer, but it has become particularly competitive in the U.K. with consumers and media taking to social media to analyze, criticize and praise each piece of creative. If successful, the advertising will pull at the heartstrings, tickle the funny bone and loosen the purse strings.
And, aside from the U.S. Super Bowl, it's the only time of year consumers make a point of watching television commercials.
