Choices Market chief operation officer, Jon Janower, has announced his upcoming retirement after nearly 49 years in the grocery business.

Janower began his career in grocery working alongside his father in a store in Prince George, B.C. By 18, he was managing his own store, states a press release.

He joined Choices Market in the late 1990s and helped with its expansion to 11 locations and its integration with Pattison Food Group. He became chief operating officer in 2012.

Under Janower’s leadership, Choices has earned repeated recognition from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, three Fairtrade Canada Retailer of the Year awards and Organic Retailer of the Year for 2025 from the Canada Organic Trade Association.
