Concrete action and measurable progress
Ferrero is celebrating its 80th anniversary with the release of its 2025 Sustainability Report, which highlights progress across responsible sourcing, climate action, packaging, employee engagement and community programs.
“Consumers are increasingly looking for brands they can trust—built on quality, good sourcing practices, careful manufacturing, and a genuine commitment to people and the planet,” says Giovanni Ferrero, president of Ferrero Group. “Ferrero’s long-term success remains closely linked to the well-being of the people and ecosystems on which our supply chain depends.”
Responsible sourcing in action
At the heart of the company’s responsible sourcing approach is its enhanced Ferrero Farming Values framework, which guides the sourcing of key ingredients, including cocoa, palm oil, hazelnuts and dairy. Built around supplier due diligence, traceability, certification, farming practices and industry collaboration, this approach aims to build stronger, more resilient supply chains while helping farmers and their communities thrive.
Ferrero reported 98% traceability for cocoa to farm polygon maps, which identify the boundaries of individual farms and help companies monitor where ingredients are grown. Traceability reached 98.6% for palm oil to field and 97% for hazelnuts to farmers.
To track land-use changes in the areas where key ingredients are grown, Ferrero uses satellite monitoring: Its Starling system provides current, high-resolution data to help identify potential deforestation, peatland development and other changes that could threaten forests or ecosystems.
Protecting the environment
The company also reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions—those produced directly by its operations and indirectly through the energy it purchases—by 7.2% year-over-year.
“We understand that the largest and often most challenging emissions goals are Scope 3 (indirect supply-chain emissions). We know that as a supplier to our retail customers, we are part of Scope 3 emissions. The important work we are doing has a direct, positive impact on our retailers’ ability to meet their sustainability goals, too,” says Jeremy Laflamme, manager, sustainability, environment and energy, Ferrero Canada.
Laflamme adds that locally, the Ferrero Brantford plant is undergoing a comprehensive decarbonization project through energy efficiency and electrification, and waste heat recovery, among other initiatives, with the goal of reducing 15,000 tonnes of CO2 reduced annually.
Meanwhile, packaging remains another area of focus. Just under 93% of its packaging was designed to be recyclable, reusable or compostable. Redesigned Ferrero Rocher boxes also helped reduce the plastic-to-product ratio by 14.7% compared with 2019/20, avoiding approximately 16,000 tonnes of plastic since September 2021.
“Guided by our purpose and long-term vision, we will continue supporting initiatives related to the protection of natural resources, the support of our people, communities and partners and the creation of products that delight consumers for generations to come," says Omar Zausa, president, Ferrero Canada.
