Costco sales up in Canada as retailer readies Thunder Bay location: reports

Net sales for the first 31 weeks of Costco's fiscal year came to $173.3 billion, up 9.1% year-over-year.

Costco Wholesale Corp. reported $28.4 billion in sales for the retail month of March on Wednesday (April 8), up 11.3% from last year.

Comparable sales in Canada increased by 10.7%. U.S. sales were up 8.7% and Other International Sales increased by 11.9%.

Digitally enabled sales rose 23.3%.

Net sales for the first 31 weeks came to $173.3 billion, up 9.1% year-over-year.

March had one less shopping day versus last year, Costco said, due to the calendar shift of Easter, which negatively impacted both total and comparable sales by around 1% and 1.5%, respectively.

Costco is reportedly planning to open a new location in Thunder Bay, Ont. 

Newswatch reported that the retailer had acquired an eight-hectare plot of land from Forum Properties in December. The warehouse could span 160,000 square feet and include a fuel bar.
