Those who can’t stomach brussels sprouts for dinner may find them appealing in a new line of snacks from Wonderfully Raw.
Officially launching in Canada in January 2015, these organic, gluten-free, non-GMO eats feature brussels sprouts and parsnips as the star ingredients.
“Kale had its moment in the sun and that’s declining. These snacks have a really great flavour and crunch so you can use them on salads and soups or just for snacking right of out of the bag,” says Jordan Rogers of food broker Lloyd-James Natural Food Sales & Marketing, which represents Wonderfully Raw in Canada.
He says a lot of gluten-free products in the market are stripped of nutritional value, expensive and lackluster in taste. “Our products taste good and are good for you.”
Brussel Bytes come in Chili Pumpkin Seed Crunch and Tamarind Apple Crunch, while the fibre-rich parsnip Snip Chips—available in three flavours—are high in vitamins C, E and K, as well as Omega-3 and potassium.
“If you can delight the consumer with exciting brands on trend with the market that’s a competitive advantage,” says Rogers, noting that 76% of consumers are seeking non-GMO products according to stats from the latest Health & Natural Shopper Annual Study from MamboTrack. In fact, non-GMO foods are expected to account for 30-40% of the U.S. food and beverage market by 2017.
The company is marketing the line via consumer trades shows, trade advertising and social media. The products (with a suggested retail of $6.49-$7.49) are available at select grocery and health food stores throughout western Canada with plans to expand east by end of January 2015.
