Eau de Pizza Hut - it exists
Pizza Hut Canada has confirmed the best way to navigate potentially tricky social media situations is to keep your tongue firmly in your cheek.
The fast food chain recently announced it has launched a limited edition perfume – Pizza Hut Perfume – in response to a popular Facebook post.
The company, whose Facebook page boasts over 156,000 likes, in August asked followers to respond to the following question:
“Do you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened? We thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called?”
The response was overwhelming, even for Pizza Hut, whose posts are frequently shared, commented upon and liked.
Some people were for the idea, offering up name suggestions like “Dough Boy Pour Homme” and “Pizzaz,” while others were less enthusiastic, recommending names like “Gluttony” and “Clogged Arteries.”
Nonetheless, the post garnered some 337 comments and over 190 shares, and prompted the company to put their money where their (pizza-lovin’) mouths were.
It created a fragrance with notes of “freshly baked, hand-tossed dough.” Only 110 bottled were made, and were distributed to the first Facebook fans to share how much they wanted a bottle of the starchy-scented perfume.
Pizza Hut Canada won't confirm or deny whether it plans to sell its products in retail stores. "For now, we've only produced 110 bottles of Eau de Pizza Hut, but who knows what the future has in store," said Beverley D'Cruz, the company's marketing and product development director in a press release.
Of course, Pizza Hut isn’t the first company to create a food-scented fragrance. In 2008, Burger King released a meat-scented body spray. There's also Fargginay, which sells Bacon (pronounced Bay-CONE), a perfume that blends 11 essential oils with the essence of bacon.
