John Manax, VP of operations, Food Basics at the grand opening of the Porcupine, Ont. store
A new Food Basics opened its doors in the community of Porcupine, Ont., near Timmins, on Thursday.
There was much anticipation for the store with local media reporting customers lining up for the grand opening. The community had been without a full-service grocery store for more than two years.
Located in the Porcupine Mall, the 18,000-sq.-ft. store is the 142nd Food Basics in Metro’s network. The company says the store will provide shoppers in the area with an assortment of budget friendly as well as locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce. Metro says the store also creates 50 jobs in the community.
“Food Basics is always looking to expand to new communities, and we are excited that we are continuing to grow and invest in a passionate community like Porcupine,” said John Manax, vice president of operations, Food Basics, in a press release. “We heard the demands of the community and its need for a grocery store. Plans to open sooner were delayed with the pandemic, but like you, we are glad the wait is over.”
