Discount grocer sets up shop in a new retail and residential development

Food Basics has opened a store in Kitchener, Ont.’s Williamsburg community.

The 31,000-sq.-ft. store anchors the Sunfish Shopping Centre—a newly constructed retail and residential development--located at 1270 Fischer-Hallman Rd.

The new, modern space will employ 95 team members, and will offer customers fresh BBQ chickens, locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce, and self-checkout lanes.

In a press release announcing the store opening, John Manax, vice-president of operations, Food Basics said the grocer was always looking to expand and invest in new communities like Williamsburg.

“No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save. Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices,” he said.
