Fortinos Supermarket plans to test sales of par-baked frozen pizzas from Toronto-area restaurant General Assembly Pizza.
The pizzas will be sold at five Fortinos locations in Burlington, Vaughan, Brampton, Hamilton and Oakville.
Results of the pilot will be reviewed to determine future distribution plans, according to a press release, including possible expansion to all 23 Fortinos locations across Southern Ontario.
The pizzas are “made by real chefs with premium ingredients and all-natural dough,” and can be prepared in less than 10 minutes. They are available in meat-free and plant-based options.
“Our team was drawn to GA Pizza’s product offering: a premium frozen pizza that’s both easy to cook and delicious,” said Fortinos’ director of marketing Beverly Wright, in the release. “Fortinos is excited to partner with GA Pizza—as a large grocery retailer, this premium, locally-made frozen pizza is a great fit for our customers.”
General Assembly Pizza got its start as a fast-casual restaurant in 2017 and three years later introduced its “freezer to table” line and also a subscription service. It recently secured a new production facility that it says will enable it to “swiftly scale frozen pizza production.”
