Health and beauty brief: Clarins opens longevity research centre, Empire looks to grow Lawtons
Clarins researches longevity
The skincare and makeup brand has launched its Dr Olivier Courtin Clarins Longevity Research Centre.
Led by an international scientific committee under the chairmanship of Olivier Courtin Clarins, the centre will research the “definitive factors that accelerate skin ageing.”
It will also “chart how cumulative lifestyle decisions shape wellbeing through the decades.”
The research team includes specialists in ageing biology, dermatology, epidemiology, behavioral science, biomedical engineering and data science.
The centre will be based out of Clarins’ Paris headquarters and Laboratories in Pontoise, France.
Its core mission is to provide strategic direction for Clarins research; oversee doctoral and postdoctoral programs in partnership with universities and research institutes; and share its discoveries.
Empire looks to take Lawtons Drugs to next level
On the company’s fourth quarter earnings call Thursday (June 18), president and CEO Pierre St-Laurent said the retailer sees the potential in growing its pharmacy store network.
“Adding more pharmacies in our new stores network, even going after small token acquisitions in the market—the team is focusing on it right now,” St-Laurent told analysts. “Last year, pharmacy did overperform the rest of the business. It's just the beginning. We're encouraged by what we see in front of us to drive that business to the next level.”
Empire has a network of more than 400 pharmacies, including both in-store pharmacies and standalone Lawtons Drugs locations.
