When a retailer makes it to 60, celebrations aren’t limited to one day—theyspan the entire year.

Beginning with one store on Yonge Street near Castlefield Ave. in Toronto in 1956, today the Longo’s family operates 34 stores in southwestern Ontario.

Last Friday Gus Longo, one of three brothers to open the first Longo’s Brother’s Fruit Market sixty years ago, was joined by Toronto Councillor Norm Kelly at its Leaside location (featured as one of the 25 grocery stores to see before you die in a recent issue of Canadian Grocer) to celebrate its anniversary.

Longo took the opportunity to work some of his first jobs at the store, helping to bag groceries, stock shelves and serve prepared foods.
