Metro and Feed Ontario open third Shared Kitchen in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Who: Metro Inc.
What: The grocer, in collaboration with Feed Ontario, has unveiled the third kitchen in Metro’s Shared Kitchen network at the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) in Thunder Bay, Ont.
The Shared Kitchen initiative helped to expand the RFDA’s Building Hope facility. The new kitchen features upgraded commercial-grade equipment, expanded refrigeration and storage capacities and webcasting technology.
Through the expansion, the RFDA will offer more cooking and nutrition workshops, cultural programming and employment readiness training.
The enhanced kitchen will also increase the production and distribution of pre-cooked meals.
Metro allocated $290,000 toward the expansion of the RFDA training kitchen.
The funds come from a $900,000 investment over four years towards launching the first phase of its Shared Kitchens network. This investment supports infrastructure upgrades, equipment purchases and staffing to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
