Metro opens 10th Shared Kitchen in Quebec
Who: Metro
What: The grocer recently celebrated the opening of its 10th Metro Shared Kitchen in Quebec.
In partnership with Food Banks of Quebec, Metro inaugurated its newest Shared Kitchen in Montreal. Operated by Carrefour Familial Hochelaga, the facility is located in the Hochelaga‑Maisonneuve neighbourhood.
The Shared Kitchen supports the development of community initiatives that promote healthy and accessible food for families. Through its activities, the Carrefour Familial Hochelaga provides practical support to a vulnerable population by offering opportunities to learn, cook, and improve daily eating habits. The Frigo‑don initiative complements this program by providing essential, low‑cost food assistance in a welcoming environment where parents and children come together, share and develop new food habits.
Metro is investing nearly three million dollars in the first two editions of its Shared Kitchens, including nearly $80,000 for the development and operation of the kitchen at Carrefour Familial Hochelaga.
“This 10th shared kitchen marks an important milestone in the deployment of our network across Quebec. We made sure to develop a project that genuinely responds to the needs of the community. We are very proud of this tangible initiative, which allows us to create a lasting legacy in the communities where we operate and brings our purpose to life: Nourishing the health and well being of our communities,” said Marie Claude Bacon, vice-president, public affairs and communications, Metro, in a press release.
The third edition of Metro’s Shared Kitchens is underway. The selected beneficiary organizations will be announced in the coming weeks.
