Mondelēz has invested $40 million and created 50 new jobs by expanding its factory in Hamilton, Ont.

The investment will enable Mondelēz to increase production by introducing a line that will make 11 million pieces of Maynards candy a day for distribution across Canada and the U.S.

“With this new line, Hamilton leads the way in advanced food manufacturing,” said Martin Parent, president, Mondelēz Canada, in a release. “nd thanks to the passionate 350-strong team of candy makers, we remain committed to making Canada’s favourite—and we think most delicious—candy right here in Ontario.”

Mondelēz said the latest investment in Hamilton was part of a larger commitment to manufacturing in Ontario that included $250 million invested in other Greater Toronto Area expansions. Mondelēz products produced in the GTA include Oreo, Chips Ahoy, Peek Freans, Mr. Christie, Cadbury, Caramilk, Halls and Maynards candy.

According to a MetroLand Media report, Parent told reporters at the official opening Wednesday that the expanded facility and new technology “gives us the opportunity to continue to innovate, to provide Canadians with combinations of flavours we couldn't in the past because we didn’t have the capacity.”

"The plant is the best in the whole Mondelēz network because of quality," Parent said.
