New app connects people to locally-grown food in New Brunswick

The Conservation Council of New Brunswick has released a smartphone app that helps connect New Brunswickers with local growers, producers and retailers. The council says the app focuses on getting visitors to farms, markets and other places where they can experience local food, products and crafts in their neighbourhoods. The free app, titled BuyLocalNB, is available on Android devices and will soon be available on iOS devices. To use the app, a user begins on a screen where they can choose between farm products, visit a farm, local markets or non-food products. The app will show producers near you. Using the app's "Visit a Farm" feature, users can find a local producer, whether it be an apple orchard or sugar shack, and arrange a first-hand look at what they do to provide families with local products. The council says nearly 300 farmers, businesses and crafts people are already participating in the project.
