No Frills has created an 8-bit video game that allows shoppers to earn PC Optimum points.
Players of the Hauler: Aisles of Glory game shop various sections of the store (produce, bakery, deli, the parking lot) while avoiding "unnecessary frills" not commonly found at grocery stores, including diamonds, limousines and speed boats.
At the end of each game, players enter their PC Optimum card number to collect 500 points. The game will run until 50,000,000 points have been rewarded.
The game can be played online or via mobile, and is part of No Frills' ongoing "Hauler" advertising platform. In addition to the video game, the effort includes a television commercial, in-store events as well as branded items that will be available for sale online next month.
The Loblaw-owned discount banner introduced Hauler a year ago with television commercials, an original song and clothing items.
The original creative aimed to demonstrate the banner’s commitment to quality food at low prices, and communicate that fancy in-store musicians, chalkboard artists and produce items stacked like pyramids found at some stores, translate to higher grocery bills.
At launch the brand defined on its Facebook page as:
1. Someone who cares not for frills.
2. Someone who is frugal, and proud of it.
3. Someone who hauls. Hard. (See definition of haul)
4. Someone who shops at No Frills.
Linda’s such a hauler she needs a stretch minivan.
