Old Dutch Foods opens energy-efficient facility in P.E.I.

Old Dutch Foods has opened a new accounting office and warehouse facility in Summerside, P.E.I.

Located in Slemon Park, the 8,400 square-foot facility incorporates a range of technologies designed to improve energy performance, including solar power generation, geothermal heating and cooling and an energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system.

The integrated solar power system includes a dedicated solar array spanning around 160 metres. It is expected to generate approximately 40 kilowatts of power. 

Old Dutch Foods’ Summerside facility also uses geothermal technology as its primary heating and cooling source. The system consists of 16 geothermal boreholes connected through a vertical closed-loop geothermal heat exchange system that transfers energy between the ground and the building.

The ERV system captures energy from exhausted air and uses it to temper incoming fresh air. The technology helps improve indoor air quality while reducing the energy required to heat and cool the facility.
