One-third of Canadians to spend more on holiday dinners: survey
One-third of hosts said they plan to spend more on entertaining this year, a new holiday survey by Field Agent Canada finds. These increases are attributed to rising grocery prices and larger guest lists.
Of the over 1,900 Canadians surveyed, 76% of respondents said they will be hosting at least one holiday gathering during the season.
Sixty percent of those hosting will choose turkey for their main protein, while 47% will choose chicken, 35% will opt for ham and 32% will pick beef. Eleven percent will choose lamb and 6% will opt for plant-based proteins.

The survey also found that nearly 1 in 3 hosts said they consider food allergies when shopping. Twenty-four percent are accommodating lactose intolerance, 18% are accommodating gluten sensitivity and 17% are accommodating vegetarian preferences.
When it comes to indulgence, chocolate, gingerbread and fruitcake top the list, while wine and spirits make up the majority of alcoholic beverages for at-home celebrations.
More than half of those surveyed plan to make charitable donations during December.
