Montreal is home to a new Metro Plus
The 21,300-sq.-ft. store in the city’s Plateau neighbourhood is packed with specialty and Quebec-made items.
Dominic and Stéphane Beaulieu, Thursday morning, marked the grand opening of their new Metro Plus, in the heart of Plateau-Mont-Royal, one of Montreal’s most vibrant and densely populated neighbourhoods. This is the Beaulieu family’s fifth Metro store, and its fourth in Montreal.
Located at 1490 Avenue du Mont-Royal East, the store was built with a total investment of $16 million. The store’s assortment boasts a wide range of fresh and specialty products, including a large offering of items made in Quebec as well as from Montreal-based artisans such as Les Givrés ice creams, Carrément Tarte pies and coffees from local roasters.
The new store also offers shoppers a selection of imported gourmet goods, including fine cheeses and charcuterie. Other features include fresh-baked pizzas, in-store chef-prepared meals, an Adonis counter, and the full Aki Sushi experience (grill, Thai, sushi and Boba bubble tea).
“We are extremely proud to open our fourth store in Montreal, and especially here, in a neighbourhood we know very well. The Plateau is part of our personal and professional history and it was important for us to offer a modern, welcoming grocery store that reflects the reality of the people who live here,” said Dominic Beaulieu, co-owner of the new store, in a press release.
The location will have a team of 80, led by store manager Émile Tessier. At the grand opening, a $5,000 donation was made to Partage & Solidarité, an organization that will be part of the grocer’s food recovery program to redistribute unsold, but edible foods.
As a retailer and franchisor, Metro has about 1,000 food stores under banners including Metro Plus, Metro, Food Basics, Adonis and Première Moisson.
