Walmart Canada opened its newest supercentre in Oakville, Ont. this morning.

"I'm excited to be here to celebrate the milestone of our second grand opening this year," said Steve Schrobilgen, Walmart Canada's chief operations officer at the grand opening.

In May, Walmart opened a store in Port Credit, Mississauga, about 20 minutes east of the Oakville location.

Spanning more then 100,000 square feet, the new store is located in the South Oakville Centre in a freshly renovated space that was once occupied by Target. Other occupants of the retail centre include Metro, Shoppers Drug Mart and Winners.

"We are here to bring our customers quality products and unbeatable prices and exceptional service, all under one roof," said store manager Ivona Elliston. Elliston credited several teams—from construction to merchandising and more—for their hard work bringing the store to life ahead of schedule.

"This store reflects the future of Walmart in Canada—modern, sustainable and designed with our customer in mind," she said, "It features everything from fresh groceries to the latest electronics, all tailored to meet the diverse needs of our growing community," she said, adding that the store had created new jobs and growth opportunities for team members. "I am proud to share that as part of its opening we're celebrating four salaried and 10 hourly promotions."

Along with a robust grocery offering, Hot Kitchen and all the general merchandise departments Walmart is known for, the South Oakville location features an in-store Chatime bubble tea cafe and pharmacy.
