PHOTOS: Safeway opens two-level flagship store in Vancouver
Empire Company banner Safeway returned to Vancouver’s Oakridge Park Mall Thursday (Aug. 27) with the opening of a 50,000 square-foot store.
Spanning two levels, the supermarket is the banner’s new flagship location in the region.
Safeway had operated a location in the mall—formerly the Oakridge Centre—for decades before its closure in January 2020, as the mall was demolished to make way for a redevelopment.
Described as one of the retailer's "most innovative and distinctive stores," the new location features a dedicated Global Market with international products integrated throughout the store; an expanded fresh food experience including in-store sushi, Asian hot foods, dim sum, buffet-style offerings and ready-to-eat meal solutions; and a premium seafood department with three live seafood tanks and a selection of fresh fish and shellfish.
The second floor “wellness destination” features a pharmacy, Rachelle Béry, general merchandise and a baby boutique.
To mark the store's opening, Safeway presented a $5,000 donation to BGC (Boys and Girls Clubs) South Coast BC.
