Manitoba's Liquor Mart opens new concept store inside Save-On-Foods

A Save-On-Foods in Winnipeg is now home to Manitoba’s first new Liquor Mart since 2019. 

The small-format liquor store opened Friday (Aug. 7) in Save-On-Foods Northgate Shopping Centre location at 1399 McPhillips Street. 

Spanning 580 square feet, the freestanding store-within-a-store Liquor Mart differs from other Liquor Mart Express locations operating in the province’s grocery stores.

All products at the Northgate Liquor Mart are on display behind glass and are only accessible by Liquor Mart employees. 

Shoppers can select items from a digital menu board listing products and prices, then collect their chosen product from a service window at the front counter.

The store features an inventory of 240  beer, wine, spirits and ready-to-drink beverages, including an assortment from local manufacturers 

“The new Liquor Mart kiosk brings an innovative and more convenient shopping experience to our Save-On-Foods Northgate International store,” said Pattison Food Group president Jamie Nelson in a press release. “Whether customers are planning a family dinner, celebrating a special occasion or entertaining with friends, this partnership makes it easier to find complete meal and beverage solutions in one place.” 

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries operates 64 Liquor Marts across the province. The Northgate Liquor Mart is the crown corporation’s first new location since the Seasons Liquor Mart opened in 2019.
