President's Choice products now gluten-free certified
Loblaw is the latest company to earn a gluten-free certification.
The Gluten-Free Certification Program and the Canadian Celiac Association on Wednesday announced the grocery chain’s recently-launched President’s Choice gluten-free bakery products will carry the GFCP trademark.
That means customers who suffer from celiac disease, in which the small intestine is damaged by gluten, can shop with ease, according to Ian Gordon, senior vice-president of Loblaw Brands.
Other brands that carry the GFCP trademark include Frito-Lay potato chips, Solo-gi Nutrition and Cheecha brand snacks.
According to a press release, GFCP is Canada’s only certification plan.
It’s food safety system, developed by the Canadian Celiac Association, is “designed to fully meet the requirements of Canada's stringent Food and Drug Regulations for ‘gluten-free’ claims.”
