Real Canadian Superstore developed in partnership with Indigenous community to open this fall
Construction on the first Real Canadian Superstore developed in collaboration with an Indigenous community is nearing the finish line.
The Loblaw Companies banner, Tsuut'ina Nation and Taza Development Corp. have marked fall 2026 as the opening date for the Superstore at Buffalo Run in Alberta.
Buffalo Run is part of Taza Development Corp.’s 1,200-acre development in Tsuut’ina Nation.
“This development represents far more than a grocery store. It is another meaningful milestone in Taza's vision to bring convenient, high-quality amenities to the region while supporting sustained, long-term economic growth for Tsuut'ina Nation. We are proud to see this partnership continue to take shape and look forward to the store opening later this fall,” said James Robertson, president of Taza Development Corp., in a press release.
A hiring event will be held on Aug. 26. Additional details about the event, as well as the store experience, vendor partnerships and grand opening plans, are expected to be announced in the spring.
“At the heart of our business are people, purpose and passion. We are excited to bring meaningful employment opportunities to Buffalo Run, deepen relationships with Indigenous vendors and continue building on our longstanding allyship work across Canada. This store is part of something bigger, and we look forward to opening our doors to the community,” said Jonathan Carroll, senior vice-president of operations for Superstore.
The store was first announced in April 2025.
Upon completion, Buffalo Run—one of three community villages within the overall development—will offer 390 acres of retail, dining and recreation experiences.
