As the sparkling water category continues to make gains in Canada, Coca-Cola has added some tiny bubbles to its Smartwater brand.
The cola maker has added what it described in a press release as “delicate carbonation” to the premium water brand “to add a refreshing pop to any occasion.”
Between 2011 and 2016, the volume of carbonated bottled water sold in Canada increased by 46%, according to market research firm Euromonitor International, and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 4.6% in volume terms by 2021.
“Smartwater Sparkling is not only the innovation that our smartwater fans have been waiting for, because of its crisp taste and refreshing effervescence, but it is also a new, no calorie option that pairs perfectly with food to elevate your dining experience,” said Michael Samoszewski, vice-president, marketing, Coca-Cola, in the release announcing the product launch.
Smartwater Sparkling is available in 1L and 591mL bottles at major grocery and convenience retailers as well as select restaurants across Canada.
Coca-Cola will promote Smartwater Sparkling through out-of-home, digital media, retail activation and sampling.
