Sylvain Charlebois joins Second Harvest board of directors

The "food professor" brings his scientific expertise to the organization's board

Sylvain Charlebois has been appointed to the board of directors of national food rescue organization  Second Harvest.

Based in Halifax, Charlebois is a professor and director of the Agri-Food Analytics Food Lab at Dalhousie University and the former Dean of the Faculty of Management.

"I'm honoured to join such a great organization and esteemed board. What Second Harvest has accomplished in recent years as Canada's largest food rescue organization is truly amazing," Charlebois said in a statement. 

A Canadian researcher in food distribution and food policy, Charlebois is well known for his podcast The Food Professor which shares information on issues in the food, foodservice, grocery and restaurant industries.

His writing has appeared in Canadian Grocer, The Globe and Mail, La Presse, Toronto Star and Le Journal de Montréal.

"His experience and knowledge in the Canadian food space are immeasurable. The level of scientific expertise that Sylvain brings will be a major strategic asset for Second Harvest and the people and planet we serve,” CEO Lori Nikkel said.

The next board meeting takes place later this month.
