Amazon is expanding in Ontario

E-giant announces plans to open two new fulfillment centres in the province next year
9/9/2020

Amazon is strengthening its delivery network in Ontario with plans for new fulfillment centres in Ajax and Hamilton.

The two centres are scheduled to open in 2021 and, combined, will create more than 2,500 full-time jobs, according to the e-giant.

At one million square feet, the Ajax fulfillment centre will pack and ship large customer goods including sports equipment, patio furniture kayaks and other household goods. The 855,000 square-foot warehouse in Hamilton will pick, pack and ship small items such as books, electronics and toys.

Additionally, Amazon recently announced it was launching delivery stations in Stoney Creek, Kitchener, Vaughan, Etobicoke and Scarborough to "power the last mile" of the order fulfillment process. Packages are transported to these delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centres, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.

The Ajax and Hamilton facilities will bring Amazon's total to 10 fulfillment centres in Ontario and 16 in Canada. Amazon also has warehouses in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba.
