Walmart Canada makes executive-level changes

The big-box retailer says latest changes to the c-suite will help it accelerate growth

Walmart Canada has made senior executive leadership changes. The big-box retailer says these changes will help it “deliver on priority initiatives to accelerate growth and, most importantly, to support the customer experience.

As part of these changes, Mohammed Abdool-Samad has joined Walmart Canada as chief financial officer. Prior to this position, Abdool-Samad was group chief financial officer at Walmart's Massmart business in South Africa.

John Bayliss will move into chief administration officer role. Bayliss recently served as executive vice-president, transformation office and as the senior vice-president of supply chain with the retailer.

Michon Williams has been promoted from VP, technology (product and delivery) to chief technology officer. In her new role, Michon will lead the Internal Product Management and the Technology Infrastructure teams. 

Meanwhile, Joe Schrauder is making a move to Canada to become VP, operations and chief of staff to the CEO. He is based in Bentonville, Arkansas where he has been serving as president, international operations and realty for Walmart International.

"We are a people-led, tech-powered business and these updates to our executive team help position us to improve how customers are able to shop with us," said Gonzalo Gebara, president and CEO, Walmart Canada, in a press release. "Our best-in-class Canadian leadership team is pushing our business forward on the path to modernize retail."
