Walmart Canada opens $100M high-tech fulfillment centre in Alberta

Facility in Rocky View County will serve as a delivery hub for the retailer’s Western Canada customers

Walmart Canada has opened a 430,000 square foot fulfillment centre in Rocky View County, Alta. 

The high-tech facility – representing a more than $100 million investment – serves as a delivery hub for the retailer’s Western Canada customers.

Walmart Canada's Rocky View County fulfillment centre will also store thousands of items available on Walmart.ca.

It's capable of shipping 20 million items annually from the facility directly to customers and can handle up to 500,000 unique items to fulfil direct-to-home and ship-to-store pickup orders.

The facility will also fulfil orders for Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), the company’s fulfillment service for its third-party e-commerce sellers.

Features of the centre include: goods-to-person robotics; three types of robotic technology; technology-enhanced inbound receiving; and auto-boxing technology.

The Rocky View County Fulfillment Centre is part of Walmart Canada's larger $3.5 billion investment to upgrade its chain network and increase its e-commerce capabilities.
